چکیده

In a study of the oxygen stores of the body anaesthetized paralyzed dogs were hyperventilated (Pa<x), = 15 mm Hg) for 2 hours. During the final 30 minutes the inspired mixture was altered from oxygen to air. The rates at which alveolar and arterial oxygen concentrations approached their new steady-state values were represented by the halftimes (t£) 0.17 and 0.23 minutes respectively. The turnover rate in venous blood oxygen content proceeded at a considerably slower rate, t i=0.75 minutes. The data presented here will be useful in constructing models to predict changes in body oxygen content during anaesthesia with controlled breathing and hyperventilation.

Effects in goats of acute hypercarbia on body oxygen stores.

Eight anaesthetized and paralysed goats were ventilated for 2 hours with 100% oxygen. By mechanically increasing the deadspace, the level of Paoo2 was acutely elevated to an average of 62 mm Hg. During the final 30 min of ventilation, the inspired mixture was altered from oxygen to air. The rates at which the arterial and mixed venous oxygen concentrations approached their new steady state valu...

Effects in dogs of hyperventilation and hypothermia on body oxygen stores.

Six anaesthetized, paralyzed, hypothermic (30° C) dogs were hyperventilated for 2 hours. During the final 30 minutes, die inspired mixture was altered from oxygen to air. The rates at which alveolar and arterial oxygen concentrations approached their new steady state values were represented by the half-times (t£) of 0.19 and 0.26 minutes, respectively. The turnover rate in venous blood oxygen c...

Anatomical parameters of cardiopulmonary system, venous blood pCO2and pO2tensions and the development of ascites syndrome in two genetic line chickens that are differing in their growth rate

The present study was designed to examine the anatomical parameters of the cardiopulmonary system, the function of venous blood gas parameters and the development of ascites incidence in two genetic line chickens. Three hundred forty day-old chickens from two pure broiler breeder lines, which were different in their growth rate and susceptibility to ascites syndrome were obtained. The relative ...

Myocardial oxygen tension determines the degree and pressure range of coronary autoregulation.

Experiments were designed to separate effects of myocardial oxygen tension and oxygen consumption on coronary autoregulation. The approach was to measure coronary hemodynamic and metabolic responses to decreases in perfusion pressure during interventions that altered the balance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand. Studies were conducted in anesthetized heart-blocked dogs with the left ...

Tissue oxygenation and muscular substrate turnover in two subjects with high hemoglobin oxygen affinity.

Oxygen transport to and substrate turnover in leg muscle were studied at rest and during light and heavy upright bicycle exercise in two brothers with a hereditary hemoglobinopathy associated with high oxygen affinity (P50 = 13 mmHg). Femoral venous oxygen tension was below normal and femoral venous oxygen saturation above normal at rest and during exercise. Thus, the arterial-femoral venous ox...
